The Jacksonville Chapter
of the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) was chartered in 1995.
From the first meeting of 25 women, the Chapter has experienced steady
growth and currently has nearly 200 members. Charter members who remain
active today include Amy Hooe, Margaret Downey, Kathy Burns, Madeline Griego-Jorgensen,
Pat King, and Mary Hafeman. The EWGA has international membership (United
States, Canada, and France) numbering nearly 20,000 women golfers.
The Jacksonville Chapter
provides an environment that encourages women to learn to play and enjoy the
game of golf. The Chapter offers members numerous opportunities to learn the
basics of the game through player development programs at local golf
courses, mentoring for novice players, and rules seminars. In recent years
the Chapter has sponsored more than 80 events and activities annually for
members and their guests. While many of these offerings are strictly
golf-related (monthly tournaments, weekly leagues, Chapter Championships),
there are also many opportunities for both business and social networking.
The Chapter has earned the coveted Chapter of Excellence Award several times
over the years as recognition of the quality and variety of services
provided to its members.
The annual EWGA
Championship is the largest women’s amateur golf tournament in the United
States and the only one that has flights designed for players of all skill
levels. Participants begin competition at the local Chapter Championship
level. Winners advance to regional competition and from there to the
Championship Finals. Past Championship winners are Fran Kinney and Pat Rausch.
The Jacksonville Chapter
also proudly supports both local and national charities. The LPGA-USGA
Girls Golf and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation have received
support from the Chapter. In recent years, the Board has designated the
local Donna Foundation as the primary recipient of its fund-raising efforts.
Over the years the Chapter has raised many thousands of dollars to aid First
Coast women suffering from this disease.
The Jacksonville Chapter
of the EWGA is a volunteer managed organization. It is an excellent avenue
for meeting new friends, entertaining clients and guests, and learning a
game that one truly can play for a lifetime. The EWGA provides a venue for
women of all skill levels to get together to have fun. The Jacksonville
Chapter is where great friendships are made.
